Firstly, this site is meant to be satirical. Although much of the ‘news’ section is real and our message is very much so as well.
We Are:
We’re students at Temple University that hope to bring together artists in Philadelphia (specifically at the collegiate level) in an attempt to create an artistic community here in the Greater Philadelphia Are
[You know that guy that's always bring up the fact that they knew about a band before you did, and: "Liked their old shit... before they got popular." The girl that always complains about how movies have only gotten worse and always seem to talk about how great Bergman and Fellini are?] Some people consider us assholes or Elitists. Well, we’re not the exact same type of Elitists as I just mentioned. In reality, the title refers to an elitist as: “are those whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight; whose views and/or actions are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole.” It is our sentiment that this generations veracious appetite for finding things that are new and previously unfounded gems is cause enough to create a database of such information. We hope that, from there, we can create a collective of young artists who share similar sentiments so that our generation can push forward and possibly eschew some sort of artistic movement. Yeah, our expectations are high. And yeah, we sound really fucking pretentious, but the fact of the matter is: what do we have to lose? We just want people to see that there is always something better out there and that music and the arts should be more accessible to everyone. If that were to happen, a rapid chain of events may occur. Things like the past election with Obama are a testament to showing what change we can make if we come together, even if we don’t agree. The Elitist Magazine simply wants to plant the seed into this generation and hope it would grow into something much greater.
